Sneak - ON WRITING AND RUNNING

I sneak out under cloak of darkness
To run the city streets
And enjoy the cool morning air
No timing clock
No emphasis on speed
Just enjoying the moments
And the sweat
The left ankle begins to nag
As I turn down
An alley to a nearby greenbelt
Soon the nagging fades
As the problematic back starts to whine
I run through a tunnel
My scuffling, shuffling
Hoof beats echo
Along the way
The psychosomatic
Melodramatic
Sciatic nerve is lurking
Waiting to spring its trap
Hopefully I get near
The end
Before it announces its presence
The sweat increases
The breathing is labored
I try not to think
About my excess baggage
My excess slowness
My excess excess
Thankfully, finally
I am home
The sciatic mocks and squawks
But I am safe at home
Until tomorrow
