I Am No Longer Beholding - ON WRITING AND RUNNING

I am no longer beholding
to critiques and/or scolding
I don't need condemnation
as I excel at denigration
I am searching for salvation
or at least a nice vacation
where I’ll find a dry martini
and three wishes from a genie
I’ll wish for lots of humor
to cure the endless rumor
that I’m just an aging grump
mired in a witless slump
I could use a little serenity
so I’ll wish for lots of empathy
forgiving and generous, too
hope it keeps me from feeling blue
I hope that everyone gets wishes three
'cause that's my wish for thee
to find a magical genie
and a very dry martini
